Used Sanders Prices

This guide covers handheld sanders only (drum, spindle and drywall sanders are excluded). Used sander prices split sharply by type: random orbit sanders are cheap and plentiful, while belt sanders and dust-extraction-ready models from premium brands hold more value. Cordless sanders sold bare (no battery) should be priced well below kits.

How to tell if a used sander is a good deal

  • Run it and feel for vibration — a worn pad bearing makes a random orbit sander shake and leave swirl marks.
  • Check the hook-and-loop pad; if discs won't stick, budget for a replacement pad.
  • On belt sanders, confirm the belt tracks centered and the platen isn't grooved.
  • Make sure the dust port and bag or canister adapter are included.
  • For cordless models, ask whether a battery and charger are included before comparing prices.
